David Fay – Candidate for Executive Board

I became a proud member of Local 77 when I joined the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1984. Since that time, I have been a member of the Orchestra’s Members Committee acting in various capacities.

During the nine-week strike in 1996, I learned the value of union membership. We worked side-by-side with numerous other unions who were also experiencing work stoppages. That strike was a key learning experience for me in terms of what is possible when we stand together. Whether it was sending a violinist down to serenade the dock workers, having our fife and drum corps perform at a teacher’s rally, or having the teamster’s blasting out our recordings from a truck on Broad Street outside the Academy of Music — we were stronger and better together.

The Philadelphia Orchestra contributes significant dues for Local 77, which is why I feel it is important for the Orchestra to have representation on the Executive Board. If elected, I look forward to working for all members of Local 77 to help make the performing arts in the Philadelphia region thrive.
